Yellomundee Aboriginal Bushcare & firesticks Project at Shaws Farm site
The Yellomundee Aboriginal Bushcare Group has been controlling environmental weeds including Lantana, Tobacco Bush, Cestrum, Privet, and African Love Grass on a site in Yellomundee Regional Park that is rich in cultural history. In June 2014 the first Firesticks weekend was run on the site with an Aboriginal Elder from Cape York sharing his community’s knowledge of the use of cultural fire to manage the country. In June 2014 Shaws Creek was also declared an aboriginal place. The monthly workdays now include weeding and planting activities and also during the cooler months Firestick workshops are run to share the knowledge, study the results of the burns and carryout new cool burns.
If you would like to attend the Firesticks workshop you must register by emailing Den Barber firstname.lastname@example.org Mobile 0439 493 116
