Cumberland Plain Landcare Program

By 07/08/2018March 11th, 2019No Comments

For a little over 18 months, Greater Sydney Landcare’s Cumberland Plain Landcare Program offered support for Bushcare groups across the Cumberland Plain in the form of monthly events. This saw the implementation of 14 events with almost 350 volunteers taking part.

The CPLP planted over 600 trees, weeded approximately 5000 square metres and removed over 400kg in rubbish.

At least 28 partners were involved in the Program. The most notable of those partners was Conservation Volunteers Australia (Western Sydney Region), who played the role of volunteer manager. The support, expertise and equipment supplied from CVA (Western Sydney) made the collaboration with event organisers from Greater Sydney Landcare Network a possible reality.

Transport and free catering was on offer for all the events, in an attempt to boost volunteer numbers in Western Sydney. Other incentives were on offer too, such as guided bird watching, camp outs, flora and fauna talks and more.

Kids were welcome on the Program, also taking part in the restoration of the Cumberland Plain Woodland.

Flow on funding and other projects eventuated for some of the groups that were involved, including a significant amount for National Parks and Wildlife and the Cumberland Area.

Western Sydney is home to a number of our most iconic Aussie species, and GSLN has secured funding to extend this program into the future through a Saving Our Species grant. Consider helping their plight with habitat recovery actions, by joining your local Bushcare group. Contact your local Council to find out more.
