On Tuesday 4th June 2024, 12 Henry Schein employees joined forces with Greater Sydney Landcareβs Creating Canopies team for a corporate volunteering day at Renown Park in Oatley in the Georges River Local Government Area.
Planting Trees for a Cooler Future
Pleasant sunny weather shone down as the Henry Schein team efficiently dug all the necessary holes in the soft, moist soil and planted 600 native trees and shrubs.
These native plants will grow to three metres and above to create new canopy coverβproviding shade and cooling to help reduce urban heat in the future.
Benefits for the Local Community
The plants were installed by the oval in Renown Park, so sports players, spectators, dog walkers, and park users will all get to enjoy more shade as the plants grow.
This planting was next to another planting installed by Creating Canopies in July 2022, so the volunteers got to see firsthand what their work could amount to in just a few short years.
Team Building in the Great Outdoors
The day was not only about helping the environment, exercising in the fresh air and swapping the laptop for the great outdoors, but it was also a great opportunity for team bonding and creating long-lasting positive memories.
The Henry Schein volunteers got to enjoy a few well-deserved breaks with a delicious spread of fruit for morning tea and sandwiches for lunch, as they reflected on the positive impact of their work.
Creating Canopies Project Manager Danielle Packer and Project Officer Alicia Harb-Akins ran the day and said the team did a great job and had a lot of fun.
Doing Well by Doing Good
Thank you to the Georges River Council for volunteering Renown Park for increased canopy cover.
Thank you also to the Henry Schein team for their dedication and hard work, which has left a lasting positive impact on the environment and the local community. As the newly planted trees and shrubs grow, they will serve as a testament to what can be achieved when people come together for a common cause.
Thanks to all involved in making this day happen. Together, we can create a greener, cooler, and more sustainable future.
