A great day planting trees in Fairfield on Friday 9th October for the Creating Canopies team. It was a long but fun day out and exciting to be creating an urban native canopy at a hospital in this unusual COVID world!
Landcare NSW and Greater Sydney Landcare Network coordinated the planting of 1200 trees and companion shrubs, planted by about 20 volunteers. This work was supported by the Premierβs Priority Greening our City, Fairfield Hospital, South West Sydney Local Heath District and Fairfield City Council.
Landcare in NSW has significant skills and expertise in drawing multiple stakeholders and community groups together to Create Canopies, and connect people and the environment. We had a small but keen number of local Fairfield volunteers, which is a great starting point, and we will be working with the Fairfield Hospital to develop a Landcare group to look after the trees. Bring on Hospital Landcare NSW!
Creating Canopies will have their next planting at Birrong next week on Thursday 22nd October.
