Sydney Rock Climbers Mountain Goat Bushcare Group is dedicated to the protection and regeneration of Sydney’s northern coastal cliffs. The group was formed after one of its members noticed rock climbing was having a detrimental impact on the Barrenjoey Headland and that the area was being overgrown with weeds.
For the past three years, the group has removed bitou bush, lantana and asparagus fern that are found around the rocky cliffs of Barrenjoey Headland, in the Littoral Rainforest, the Coastal Themeda Grassland and the top and western slope of Barrenjoey Headland. They also remove rubbish from fishing sites and install signage to encourage users to pick up litter.
The most significant challenge faced by the group is access to Barrenjoey, which is difficult to negotiate due to its geography and the occurrence of bushfires.
