Greater Sydney Landcare is currently seeking a Casual Environmental Field Officer to join our friendly and hardworking team. This role is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in the field while supporting vital conservation work across the region.
About the Role
This is a casual position with flexible hours (approximately one day a week, with potential for more). You’ll work on a variety of conservation and volunteer-based projects, with tasks including:
- Preparing sites for planting (weed control, brush cutting, augering, mulching) & maintenance
- Planting and maintaining native trees and shrubs
- Supervising and supporting community and corporate volunteers at events
- Conducting monitoring visits and assisting with project reporting
- Ensuring work is conducted safely and to high ecological standards
Some weekend work and travel across Greater Sydney will be required.
Project Support
This role supports various Greater Sydney Landcare projects when required, including:
- Creating Canopies – Greater Sydney Landcare, in partnership with Landcare NSW, is planting 300,000 native trees across Greater Sydney by the end of 2025, as part of the Greening our City initiative. Proudly funded by the NSW Government.
- Corporate Volunteering – Greater Sydney Landcare facilitates conservation events for corporate groups to plant trees, complete bush regeneration, clean up litter and more across Greater Sydney.
- Natural Resource Management – Greater Sydney Landcare provides natural resource management services to clients.
About You
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong native and weed plant ID skills
- Is confident using tools and small machinery (brush cutters, augers, etc.)
- Can train and supervise volunteers
- Is friendly, reliable, physically fit, and enthusiastic about bush regeneration
Preferred:
- Cert III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or equivalent experience
- Previous experience – working as a bush regenerator; working in landscaping; working with volunteers e.g. Bushcare volunteers.
Required Qualifications
- White Card (Construction Induction)
- AQF3 Chemical Accreditation (ChemCert)
- First Aid & CPR (can be provided)
- Working with Children Check
- Current Driver’s Licence
