About Streamwatch

Streamwatch is a social, environmental and educational program focused on waterway condition monitoring and part of Waterwatch in Australia. The Streamwatch program has been going to over 30 years and has recently been revived with new equipment that is simple, fast and safe for students. This uses simple visual, physical and chemical standard check equipment. Water test results can be uploaded to the Atlas of Living Australia via a simple app.

South East Sydney Schools Streamwatch Officer

Purpose of this role:Β Have Streamwatch functioning in schools in south east Sydney and support GSL water based and other activities.

You will work with:Β GSL Streamwatch team and develop relationships with Georges River and Sutherland Shire Councils, Georges River Keeper, local Aboriginal and community groups in Kurnell, Sutherland and National Parks; National Park Environmental Education Centres and Local Land Services.

Main activities and deliverables:

  • Continue to contact schools and engage 20+ schools to adopt the Streamwatch program
  • Deliver equipment, test materials, education/technical support and training to 20+ schools
  • Ensure recording of Streamwatch test results in Atlas of Living Australia and conduct quality assurance processes to authorise publication for public access
  • Liaise with local networks to organise and deliver suitable events to ensure program success
  • Contribute to newsletters, social media and strategy

Qualifications: Relevant university degree or equivalent

Experience: Working in a practical education position with an interest in science based activities 

Requirements:

  • Literacy and numeracy skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Communication skills and ability to motivate people and teamwork skills
  • Planning and scheduling skills with ability to work under volume and time pressures
  • Understand science, use simple equipment and attention to detail
  • Use of communication tools such as Gmail, Microsoft Teams and social media
  • Class C driving licence and vehicleΒ 

Locations for work: mainly south east Sydney with GSL offices at Castle Hill

Hours for work: this is funded mainly by a grant part time position with a minimum of 26 hours per week plus other opportunities until end May 2025, with some work continuing after with more potential opportunities.

Salary: $41 per hour plus super
