Streamwatch FAQs

How do I join a Streamwatch group?

Contact streamwatch@greatersydneylandcare.org and we will direct you to the closest group.

Once a group is selected you will be sent WHS and induction documents to read over and sign off before starting in the field.

Group capacity is dependent on the site and placement can take some time.

One-off streamwatch events will be advertised on our website and social media.

Can I setup a new Streamwatch Group?

Yes.ย  Individuals and community groups are recommended to first attend a Streamwatch event to understand the requirements of a group.

Then contact streamwatch@greatersydneylandcare.org and we will discuss the obligations and requirements of Streamwatch groups.

Can I buy a kit?

Water Testing kits can be purchased through Greater Sydney Landcare for the purpose of testing and uploading into our Atlas of Living Australia Database.

Some community groups will be eligible to be provided a kit under current Grant funding.

How do I report pollution?

Write down as much detail as you can about the location and event. If possible, take photos and collect a google map in drop.

There are multiple sources you can contact:

  • Call NSW Environment Protection Authority on the Pollution Line: 131 555
    • There is very useful information on theย NSW EPA website about the reporting of pollution events.
  • If you think the pollution is sewage, contact Sydney Waterย on 132 090
  • In all instances it useful to Contact yourย Local Council.

How can I get involved in looking at waterbugs to check the health of creeks and streams?

Join us on our a Streamwatch events, events are advertised on our social media and website.

You can also be involved in The National Waterbug Blitz. ย The National Waterbug Blitz is Australiaโ€™s first nationwide waterway monitoring event. Review their website for resources and download the The Waterbug appย to get started

Can I see the Streamwatch data?

Streamwatch data collected in the period 1990-2018 has been uploaded to NSW Governmentโ€™s

Sharing and Enabling Environmental Dataย (SEED) platform.

The data can be visualised spatially and graphically on this platform and downloaded.Visit theย Streamwatch data on the SEED platform
