On Sunday 31st July our Creating Canopies team joined City of Parramatta for a big National Tree Day event. Over 550 people came along to help us increase the tree canopy of Upjohn Park!

There was live music, a free BBQ, face painting, wildlife displays, a plant giveaway and of course there were hundreds of plants added to the park. There were smiles all around and the community were incredibly keen to learn more about their local environment.

Upjohn Park is a great example of the success of past National Tree Day events which have added valuable native habitat to the area. You can see weeds such as Small-leaf Privet being replaced with a diverse range of native trees. As we were setting up the stalls, beautiful parrots could be heard frolicking in the restored bushland.

Special thanks to Lord Mayor of Parramatta – Donna Davis, Councillor Kellie Darley, and Councillor Phil Bradley for coming along to support the event and lend a hand.

Also thanks to Plastic Free Parramatta, Tzu Chi Australia, Abrakadoodle Australia and the local Scouts for their help on the day!
