What GSLN will be doing in 2015

By 25/01/2015No Comments

The GSLN committeeΒ met December 8, 2014 and decided to do a range ofΒ things, some of these are pertinent or of interest to members and potential members. Some of these activities are going to managed, explored or developed by sub-committees.

1) Judy Christie agreed to be our Chair.

2) We decided to create a newsletter and website greatersydneylandcare.org. The website would also have an online form for members.

3) A sub-committee was formed to look at benchmarking LGAs. Suggested measures by which LGAs could beΒ benchmarked includedΒ percent of vegetation loss, grant Β recipients, unsuccessful grant applications, 10/50 impacts and utilities.Β For data,Β NCC’s,Β LLS and the National Landcare (see below).

4) National Landcare Survey might help with benchmarking. The National Landcare SurveyΒ is an Australian Government activity being rolled out by the RegionalΒ Landcare Facilitator in each region that we may be able to make work in our benchmarking exercises.

5)Β Grants & Funding,Β we willΒ draft a check-list toΒ help us assess requests to act as sponsor or apply for grants on behalf of groups.Β We agreed thatΒ GSLN will focus on the β€œbigger picture”. We can also act as a conduit,Β informing members of other grants, as well as ask people to let us know what grants they are applying for so we can help look for opportunities to collaborate or apply for larger funding sources,Β or link with LLS funding.Β We willΒ progress the above ideas as wellΒ as look for grant opportunities for GSLN itself.

6)Β Data Collection, via development ofΒ an app,Β the app will allow data collection in the field atΒ landcare & bushcare sites, which is in a standardised electronic format and that can alsoΒ be easily shared.

7)Β GSLN to be a co-brand on Source to SeaΒ inΒ May, 2015Β to reflect the new Greater Sydney boundaries. The intention is to have events on theΒ Hawkesbury, Parramatta, Georges and Hacking Rivers paddling (or house boating) the rivers and visitingΒ local landcare / bushcare groups culminating in a regional bushcare workshop / forum.

8) InformΒ Landcare NSW of our existence, our intended projectsΒ and sub-committees and askΒ support we might receive. The GSLN Committee will look to appointing aΒ delegate toΒ Landcare NSW.

9) Publish our first newsletter by Australia Day if website and membership form are ready.
