On Saturday 7th October, 11 volunteers joined the Creating Canopies team at Brownlow Hill in Orangeville, near Camden.

This awesome group planted 500 trees and shrubs in the ground.

Some of the Eucalyptus trees planted could grow up to 35 metres tall – that’s as high as a 9 storey building!

These new plants will provide plenty of cooling shade and shelter and food for wildlife in the future.

The group also helped install guards to protect the new plantings from wild deer.

About Brownlow Hill

Brownlow Hill is a dairy farm which has been owned and operated by five generations of the Downes Family. A portion of the property is committed to conservation, biodiversity stewardship and biobanking with the NSW Government’s BioBanking Scheme.

Since 1890 African Olive has been on the property, creating a monoculture where the native bushland once thrived and changing the pH of the soil. Brownlow Hill has been removing African Olive and planting native trees so the ecosystem can be restored and preserved.
