On Wednesday 6th March 2024, Greater Sydney Landcare hosted a corporate volunteering day for Solvay.

14 Solvay staff helped plant 800 native trees and shrubs for our Creating Canopies project and remove weeds at Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany, in the Bayside Local Government Area.

Natural Resource Officer Bryce Doyle led the day with our new bush regenerators Aimee Hancock and Nicholas Brown.

We were excited that Russell Crowe attended on the day though sadly it was not the actor, but rather Solvay’s Commercial Manager.

What Did Solvay Think of Their Corporate Volunteering Day?

  • 100% of Solvay staff that gave feedback rated the day as ‘excellent’.
  • 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the event was well organised and that the catering met their expectations.

When asked what they thought of the event, Solvay staff said:

  • “It was great fun and the staff involved made it a pleasant and easy experience. I regularly use the park and it is great to walk past and see the development of the area in such a positive way.”
  • “Well organised and informative.”

When asked about their favourite part of the event, Solvay staff said:

  • “The planting of the trees and being outside with a group of friends.”
  • “Good team building exercise. As planting is local to work we can check progress.”

When asked what they learned about the natural environment, Solvay staff said:

  • “The use of medium trees and smaller shrubs underneath and how they interact and have different benefits to the ecosystem.”
  • “Realised the amount of work needed to revegetate even a small area.”
  • “How to remove asparagus weed.”

Thank you Solvay for giving your time and energy to look after the environment for all to enjoy. We had a great day hosting you all and hope to see you again soon.
