On Thursday 4th April 2024, Greater Sydney Landcare was pleased to host a corporate volunteering day for Steadfast in partnership with Landcare Australia.

15 Steadfast employees joined our Creating Canopies team at Kyeemagh Boat Ramp Reserve in the Bayside Local Government Area to install 400 plants including canopy trees, shrubs and grasses.

The tree planters were from Steadfast’s Marketing & Communications and Investor Relations & ESG teams, as a joint initiative between the two teams.

Creating Canopies Project Manager Danielle Packer led the day.

Ms Packer said, “The day was forecast to rain but gave us plenty of time to get all the plants in the ground. We all had our ponchos at the ready just in case!”

“The plants were all native species which will grow well in the area and provide food for local pollinators and shelter for wildlife.”

The trees and shrubs planted as part of our Creating Canopies project are species that grow to 3 metres or taller, to provide shade and cooling to reduce urban heat in the future.

We also plant grasses and small shrubs, including 50 planted on this day, as an important understory layer of habitat providing nesting sites, shelter and food for native species.

Ms Packer also said, “Because Creating Canopies has planted trees here before, the volunteers got to see what their plants could look like in six months time. The previous plantings are looking great!”

“Thank you to all the Steadfast volunteers. Their planting efforts will increase the plant diversity of the area and create small bird habitat due to the high number of flowering shrubs they planted.”
